If you’re looking for a Washington DC engagement photographer who creates photos that feel natural, elevated, and a little editorial, you’re in the right place. I’m bringing my loose editorial approach to Washington, DC for a limited number of engagement sessions, creating images that combine beautiful architecture, movement, connection, and fashion-forward style.
I’m based in Northeast Ohio and photograph couples throughout Cleveland, Akron, and beyond, but I love traveling for couples who want something a little different. A Washington DC engagement session is the perfect setting for that.
Think beautiful historic architecture, city streets, soft evening light, movement, intentional posing, and those in-between moments that make the photos feel like you.

Your engagement photos don’t have to feel like a traditional photoshoot.
My approach to engagement photography is relaxed and guided. I’ll help you know where to stand, how to move, and what to do with your hands, but I also want plenty of room for the two of you to simply interact.
The goal is a gallery that feels effortless, fashion-forward, emotional, and personal.
I’m drawn to clean architecture, interesting textures, beautiful light, movement, and the little details that make an image feel intentional. Sometimes that means a perfectly composed portrait against a historic building. Other times, it’s the way you naturally laugh while walking down the street together.
The best galleries usually have both.
If you’re drawn to photography that feels a little like a fashion editorial but still looks and feels like your actual relationship, a DC engagement session could be a great fit.
Washington, DC has so much variety packed into one city.
You can create an engagement gallery that feels romantic and classic without having every image look the same. Historic architecture, quiet residential streets, grand monuments, waterfront views, and modern city details can all work together in one session.
That variety is one of my favorite things about photographing in a city.
For couples who want editorial engagement photography, DC offers plenty of opportunities to create images with a strong sense of place while still keeping the focus on your relationship.
Georgetown is one of my favorite areas to consider for a Washington DC engagement session.
The neighborhood combines historic architecture, brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, storefronts, greenery, and the waterfront. That gives us a lot of variety without needing to travel all over the city.

Georgetown is also known for its 18th- and 19th-century architecture and historic residential streets, which can create a timeless backdrop for engagement photos.
For more information about the neighborhood, you can explore the official Georgetown DC neighborhood guides and Georgetown neighborhood map.
For your session, I love the idea of starting with more structured architectural portraits before moving into walking photos and candid moments.
The result can feel polished without feeling overly posed.
If you love classic architecture and clean city lines, Capitol Hill is another great option.
The area gives your engagement photos a more structured, sophisticated feeling. Think tailored outfits, historic buildings, quiet streets, and architectural details.

This would be especially beautiful for couples who want a more fashion-forward or formal look.
A black suit, a sleek dress, heels, and simple accessories could create a very different feeling than a casual outdoor engagement session.
For couples who want iconic Washington DC scenery, the National Mall is an obvious option.
The National Mall and Memorial Parks includes some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and more than 1,000 acres of federal parkland. The National Park Service notes that the area includes the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and many other memorials and greenspaces.
The National Mall can create those dramatic, wide environmental portraits that immediately tell you where the session took place.
However, I don’t think every engagement session needs to revolve around the monuments.
Sometimes the most interesting photographs happen on a quiet city street, in beautiful light, or in an unexpected corner of the city.
For current park information and permitted-use questions, check the official National Mall and Memorial Parks website before your session.
Your outfits can completely change the look of your engagement photos.
For an editorial-inspired session, I usually recommend thinking about your outfits as part of the overall visual story rather than simply choosing something you would normally wear for a night out.
A few ideas:

Cream, black, white, navy, brown, soft neutrals, and muted tones can photograph beautifully against the architecture and streets of DC.
Most importantly, choose clothing that makes you feel confident.
You don’t need to dress like someone else just because you’re having your photos taken. The best editorial images still feel like you.
Light can completely change the feeling of your engagement photos.
For a softer, more romantic look, I typically prefer the later part of the day when the sun begins to lower. This can give us softer light, longer shadows, and a more relaxed atmosphere.
The exact timing depends on the season and location.
Urban sessions can also be beautiful closer to sunset when city buildings begin catching the last light of the day.
For couples who want a more dramatic editorial look, I also love the idea of incorporating some blue-hour or evening images when the city begins to glow.
Rather than choosing a session time simply because it is convenient, I’ll help you choose a time that works with the location, season, and overall look we are creating.
You don’t need to know how to pose before your session.
That is part of my job.
We’ll start with simple movement and easy prompts so you can get comfortable in front of the camera. From there, I’ll guide you into more intentional portraits while giving you plenty of space to interact naturally.
You might:
I want the session to feel like an experience rather than an hour of standing in front of a camera.
You don’t have to perform for the camera.
I’ll give you enough direction to feel confident while leaving room for the moments that happen naturally.
The best location isn’t necessarily the most famous one.
Instead, I like to choose locations based on the overall feeling you want from your photographs.
If you want:
Classic and timeless: consider historic architecture and the National Mall.
Romantic and refined: Georgetown can provide beautiful architecture, streets, and waterfront scenery.
Modern and editorial: look for clean architectural lines and more urban surroundings.
Fashion-forward: choose a location where your outfits can become part of the composition.
A little more relaxed: combine city streets with natural elements or waterfront views.
We’ll talk through the look you’re envisioning before your session and choose a location that makes sense for the photographs we want to create.
When I say “editorial,” I don’t mean that every photograph needs to look serious or perfectly posed.
Some of my favorite images are the ones where everything isn’t quite perfect.
A dress moving in the wind.
A quick laugh between portraits.
The way you naturally reach for each other’s hand.
Walking down a city street without looking at the camera.
A perfectly composed portrait followed by something completely unplanned.
That balance is what I love about a loose editorial approach.
The photographs can feel elevated and intentional while still preserving the personality and emotion of your relationship.
If you’re planning an engagement session in Washington, DC and want photographs that feel editorial, emotional, effortless, and personal, I’d love to create something with you.
I’m especially drawn to couples who aren’t looking for a cookie-cutter engagement session and want their photos to feel a little more fashion-forward.
Your engagement session should feel like more than checking a box before the wedding.
It can be an opportunity to dress up, explore a beautiful city, slow down together, and create photographs that actually feel like the two of you.
If you’re planning a Washington DC engagement session, reach out and tell me what you’re envisioning. We’ll talk through your outfits, location, timing, and the overall feel you want for your gallery.
If you’re based closer to home, I also photograph engagements throughout Cleveland, Akron, Northeast Ohio, and beyond.
You can explore more of my engagement photography, learn more about me, or inquire about your session.
Whether we’re photographing your engagement session in Washington DC, Cleveland, or somewhere completely unexpected, my goal stays the same: photographs that feel like a soft memory, with a little bit of editorial edge.
